Australia’s First (July 12, 1956)

July 12, 1956, is an important date for the Australian culture of music. It brought forward Australia’s first Rock ‘n’ Roll Record, all thanks to George Assang. Yes, that’s right. George Assang, an Indigenous Australian, was responsible for this feat as he released a version of “Heartbreak Hotel.” Going by the stage name Vic Sabrino, Assang was a highly talented musician who always brought a natural style into the scene.

An Original Rock Song (Nov 1, 1956)

Australia’s first original rock song is another aspect to be happy about, and it all took place on Nov 1, 1956. As Rock ‘n’ Roll Washboard by Schneider Sisters took charge, things went on to reach a whole new level and thus, created history. Thanks to that, the Australian culture of music saw a new rising, and an original rock song was responsible for all that took place.

In the beginning, rock music did not play a huge role in television, and the medium was not considered the ideal way to take things forward. But all that was kept aside as the first rock music show was brought alive on television. Johnny O’Keefe was given a show called Six O’clock Rock, and that was the change that everyone needed.

The 1960s saw the music industry climb on top with record companies and other kinds of players coming into the business. As a result, independent companies like W&G and Clarion saw a new form of rising that also came with teenagers demanding records and live concerts. Thanks to that, the world-famous rockstars, The Beatles, came down for a tour.

Australian bands producing hits might not sound like a new thing for the 21st century, but it was surely a mark of progress for the 1960s. The Easybeats and Normie Rowe were two of the biggest bands in the local scene. Their impact was crucial, and they even went on to move to England with the hope of cracking the international market.

Thanks to all their efforts, the Australian culture of music has always grown beyond boundaries.
